The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men

…Often go awry.
Before our eyes, we see the Democrats’ resettlement plans bearing fruit. At least 8 million illegal immigrants (“newcomers” per the White House) have entered this country during the Biden Administration. Many reports exist relating to how they are being counseled to ‘vote’ for Biden or Democrats or the freebies will be taken away.
Vote? Well, maybe not immediately, although ‘voting lite’ for municipal elections has been proposed in California and New York. That’s just the camel’s nose in the tent, so there's nothing to worry about, right?
Nevertheless, the understood objective is to bring in a surfeit of new Democrat voters.
Intent may have been obscured to some, but is now hard to miss. ‘Our’ government is incentivizing much illegal immigration through nonexistent border enforcement coupled with housing, welfare, and financial benefits. Their motivation is driven by the idea that they can buy these peoples’ loyalty with the bennies. Ensuring the longevity of that loyalty will be a presumed development of dependency on the government.
Data beyond basic demographics is hard or, for me, impossible to find. Yes, we can know something about countries of origin, ages, and genders of this current crop (2021-2024) of illegal immigrants. Still, there is very little information available as to literacy, occupational backgrounds, and socioreligious traditions. With the range of origins, generalizations are somewhat risky. Still, anecdotal reports indicate that much of the Latin American contingent and those from North Africa are not highly skilled people, and Latin Americans skew heavily Catholic, which is not a problem, while the North Africans lean towards Islam, which portends much potential conflict with Western values.
Literacy is again an unknown, but it would seem to factor into occupational opportunities. Are we getting the best and the brightest? Data is unavailable. One thing is likely, though, that the wide range of the illegal immigrants' cultural backgrounds does not include many with the traditions of constitutional and economic freedoms that have been part and parcel of US aspirations.
With the homelessness situation in this country at horrendous levels and with one prominently cited cause being a housing shortage, how does adding another several million people make any kind of sense? Of course, our homegrown homeless are not receiving the shelter and financial rewards offered to the illegals.
So the Left is harvesting potential voters, abandoning constitutional processes for changing immigration law, and finally, bribing these new arrivals with benefits and relaxed rules that accomplish another purpose - breeding resentment amongst our own citizens and ensuring further division amongst the populace. Disparate treatment that devalues U.S. citizenship includes waiving identification requirements for air travel, and illegals need not bother with Customs.
Altogether, a mess is being made, a mess that the Left hopes is so far along that it cannot be survived.
While many are attempting to rally around the idea of a resounding electoral victory by the Right leading to wholesale deportations, the reality is that Joe Biden’s policy has likely produced a fait accompli wherein many of the recent immigrants are here to stay. If they want to.
Some will no doubt find the USA not to their liking economically or culturally and will seek to return to their home countries. It’s been observed that being broke amongst friends and relatives is more easily endured than being broke and alone.
But many, likely most, will stay if they can.
And what’s to say that some significant portion of them won’t respond well to the idea of our constitutional republic? You’re talking about a lot of people who come from various countries and cultures with less developed social welfare systems than ours. In that case, a lot of them likely have experience with independent economic endeavors, i.e., entrepreneurship. And if the Left doesn’t make self-employment impossible, that may be the path of many. Being in business does not always breed a love for government. Just the fact that our government’s design appealed so greatly to the Founders, who were leaving one system for another, argues for several illegal immigrants becoming enamored of it as well.
Perhaps the Democrats’ plan is not necessarily going to yield them a substantial and persistent electoral majority after all.
