Lipstick on a pig, that is.
Whereas Kamala Harris was long regarded as an ineffective, puerile place holder serving primarily as assassination protection for Joe Biden, now that she’s succeeding him and she has the power of the mainstream press behind her, she’s steaming ahead in the polls.
Despite her known weaknesses, which are relatively unknown to the low-information voter, she is, I think, benefiting not just from being a female of color but also from not being old. Trump has suffered a drop in the polls at least partly from association with the “feeble old man” characterization of Joe Biden.
We’ll see if anything changes when she finally starts making some policy pronouncements tomorrow. The little I’ve seen from her – soviet style price controls on food, “assault weapons” ban, federal abortion law - inspires little hope. Certainly hoping the debates with Trump will change peoples’ minds is a vain wish.
And I doubt the mainstream press has much desire to focus on her V.P. pick’s weaknesses.
***** Update *****
Vice President Kamala Harris is gearing up to deliver an economic speech this Friday in Raleigh, North Carolina. Reports indicate that Harris plans to keep her remarks "relatively light on details," further fueling concerns that she lacks any real, defined policy platform as the presumptive Democratic nominee.
